ACTIVITIES
Activities
Led by a Certified Activity Director, the Activity Department at Plaza Healthcare offers diverse programming designed to appeal to each patient’s interests and enhance their highest practicable level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
Upon admission, the activity staff visit with the patient and/or loved ones to understand each patient’s likes and dislikes and assess their capable level of participation.
Due to their medical complexity, most patients at Plaza Healthcare cannot attend large group activities; therefore, the activity department has developed a robust individualized activity program. This may include one-to-one visits by activity staff, in-room concerts by various musicians, pet visits, religious visits by clergy or a person of their faith, or other individualized activities consistent with the patient’s interests.
For those able to attend group activities, patients can choose from a range of activities throughout the day. Group programs include musical entertainment, painting, cards, tile games, poker, art journaling, artist trading cards, collaging, gelli plate printing, BINGO, coloring, arts and crafts, and so much more.
Individualized and group programs are available 5 days a week (M-F), but for those patients who prefer independent activities, Plaza’s activity center offers a computer for patient-only use, an extensive library with thousands of movies, a game cabinet, a small library and supplies for various hobbies and interests. Activities also have DVD players, handheld gaming devices, and AM/FM radios available for borrowing. Located in the Activities Room contains a state of the art table top game system with hundreds of games, and it is wheelchair accessible.
The Activity Department utilizes the beautiful courtyards and dining area to host larger events such as festive and holiday celebrations, and major sporting event viewings. Families are encouraged to attend these larger functions with their loved one.
In addition to the in-house programming, Plaza Healthcare has its own multi-capacity wheelchair van that the Activity Department uses for outings and excursions. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Activity Department works with nursing, respiratory therapy, dietary, and the physicians to ensure that patients, regardless of their medical condition have the opportunity to participate if able.
