Resident Activities at Plaza Healthcare
Lead by a Certified Activity Director, the Activity Department at Plaza Healthcare offers diverse programming designed to appeal to each patient’s interests and to enhance the patient’s highest practicable level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
Upon admission, the activity staff visit with the patient and/or loved ones to understand each patient’s likes and dislikes and assesses the patient’s level of capable participation.

Due to their medical complexity, most patients at Plaza Healthcare are unable to attend a large group activity which is why the activity department has developed a robust individualized activity program. This may be in the form of one-to-one visits by the activity staff, in-room concerts by a variety of musicians, pet visits, religious visits by a person or clergy of their faith, or a variety of other individualized activities consistent with the patient’s interests.

For those able to attend group activities, patients can choose from a range of activities throughout the day. Group programs include therapeutic cooking, musical activities, exercise classes, current events, art therapy, gardening, new release movie nights, bingo, bowling and many more.

Individualized and group programs are available 7 days a week, but for those patients who wish to do things on their own, Plaza’s activity center has computers for patient-only use, an extensive library containing thousands of books and movies, and supplies for a variety of hobbies and interests.

The Activity Department utilizes the beautiful courtyards and dining area to host larger events such as birthday parties, festive and holiday celebrations, and major sporting event viewings. Families are encouraged to attend these larger functions with their loved one.
In addition to the in-house programming, Plaza Healthcare has its own multi-capacity wheelchair van which the Activity Department uses for outings and excursions. Outings include fishing trips, shopping, picnics, Christmas light tours, and many more. As part of the multidisciplinary team, the Activity Department works with nursing, respiratory therapy, dietary, and the physicians to ensure patients regardless of their medical condition have the opportunity to participate if able.
